Arenal: Central Highlands Cultural Tour

Experience the Costa Rican culture and history! Our skilled guide will take you on a memorable journey through the colonial towns of Barva and Heredia. Barva was founded in 1561, and has been declared a National Monument; surrounded by 17th and 18th century small houses made with adobe, horse hair and roofed with colorful ceramic tiles. You will visit the famous mask makers of Barva which are still displayed in community festivals and where giant puppets dance through the streets to the wild music of the “Cimarrona” (a Costa Rican traditional band). Immerse in the spiritual traditions of the people, visiting the Iglesia San Bartolome built in 1575.


The tour also includes Heredia, the provincial capital founded in 1706, which has several lovely old Spanish Colonial style landmarks arranged around the Parque Central, the main Cathedral, El Fortin, the Guard Tower as well as the Casa de La Cultura, a historic colonial residence. Experience the sights, smells and sounds of the Central Market, packed with exotic fruit, vegetables, spices and herbs.


On your way to Finca Rosa Blanca, you will stop at the Museo de Cultura Popular (The Museum of Folk Art and Culture) which recreates Spanish colonial Costa Rica in a century-old farmhouse, which was restored with period pieces and ingenious tools. If we are lucky, professors dressed in traditional garments may use the beehive-shaped ovens to make typical Costa Rican dishes.

On Saturdays, a visit to the outdoor farmers market in Barva is included; this is where Ticos (Costa Ricans) shop for fresh products. Also, according to the season, there can be the local Fiestas, Procesiones (parades), festivals with music and dance, religious celebrations, religious processions, horse and ox-cart parades and rodeos.

Arenal: Naranjo Coffee & Town Experience

You will be picked up at your hotel in San Jose for a private ground transfer to Arenal; on the way you will visit a Coffee Plantation and enjoy the picturesque town of Naranjo. After a delicious Costa Rican lunch at El Chayote Lodge, you will continue your trip to Arenal.


Naranjo is a small charming town known for having some of the best Costa Rican coffee plantations. Over two hundred years of coffee cultivation have marked Naranjo as a mecca in the production of some of the finest coffees of the world, achieving several world awards for its quality.


Our first stop will be at the Espiritu Santo Coffee Estate where we will learn the secrets of this famous drink that has conquered the world. We will be able to understand all of the stages of the coffee, from the seed to the cup. The visit takes place in a farm own by a local cooperative of coffee growers, where an amazing landscape of rolling hills provides a unique
scenery. After our coffee tour, we will continue to the Municipal Market, where vegetables, fruits, meats and other products are for sale for the local population. Our guide will tell us about the different fruits and explain how they are used and consumed in our homes. Visit the local church, the Basilica of the Lady of Piedades, reconstructed after several earthquakes in the 1940s. Afterwards we will continue to Chayote lodge were you will have a delicious typical lunch.

Arenal: Visiting Cultour (Casona Rio Fortuna)

Guests will be picked up at their San Jose hotel and transferred to Arenal. Just before arriving La Fortuna we will stop at the Cultour.

Cultour is a fascinating farm, owned by a Costa Rican Family-the Molina Herreras. It offers a fascinating farm experience that allows guests to learn and live about life in a rural community. Guests will visit the farm´s sugar cane mill and learn about the process of making sugar. They will visit a local school and share with its students. They will also meet a family that owns an organic cultivation. Back at Cultour, they will visit the farmhouse-"La Casona", a beautiful historic residence, previously owned by former president of Costa Rica,Rafael Iglesias. They will enjoy a delicious Costa Rican lunch at La Casona, cooked the old fashion way on a wood stove and served in on a banana leaf. They will also taste freshly brewed coffee and homemade coffee liquor.

Finally guests will be transferred to their Arenal hotel.

Arenal: Visiting Else Kienzler Botanical Garden & Sarchi Oxcart Factory

Guests will be picked up at their San Jose hotel and transferred to Arenal. On the way we will stop at Else Kientzler Botanical Garden, in Sarchí, Costa Rica's most famous handicrafts center and land of origin for the popular "carretas" (painted oxcarts). This lovely botanical garden offers a stunning exhibition of over 2,000 species of plants from all over the world, spread over 7 hectares (17 acres). Visitors will be able to stroll through a 2-kilometer pathway while admiring the property's immaculate gardens that overflow with rare plants and flowers, fruit trees, butterflies and birds. 

Afterwards we will visit Eloy Alfaro Fabrica de Carretas, a workshop that keeps alive the tradition of oxcart manufacturing, since 1923 through an efficient hydraulic energy system that generates 12 horsepower, powered by a nearby river called Trojan, which sets in motion all the machinery required in the workshop. Guests will step back in time into the 19th century and learn about how oxcarts were traditionally built and how do they carefully decorate them. The oxcart plays a key role in Costa Rica's history, as it was anciently used to transport coffee beans to the Pacific and Atlantic Coast for its further export by boat to USA and Europe.

Guests will also have the chance to purchase handicrafts in a local gift shop. Finally we will drive to Arenal through a panoramic road that passes through small rural towns and farms.

Arenal: Visiting Espiritu Santo Coffee Plantation

Guests will be picked up at their San Jose hotel and transferred to Arenal. On the way we will stop at the Espiritu Santo Coffee Plantation, located in the mountains of Naranjo.

The Espiritu Santo Estate has 40 acres of Arabic coffee organic plantations, one the most internationally recognized coffee beans. Guests will learn about how coffee is ecologically grown, harvested, peeled and toasted. They will discover the endemic tree species that are used in the organic plantations. Afterwards, they will visit the processing plant and experience how coffee beans are selected, peeled in the grinder and then dried out in the sun. Finally, guests will observe the roasting process and learn about how coffee experts taste and recognize its quality. They will also visit a replica of a typical Costa Rican house and discover how coffee used to be brewed in the past.

Finally we will drive to Arenal through a panoramic road that passes through small rural towns and farms.

Arenal: Visiting Three Volcanoes By Helicopter, Irazu, Poas And Arenal

Guests will be transferred to Arenal in a helicopter. A highly qualified pilot and a tour guide will accompany guests during the flight. The helicopter will fly over the three most impressive volcanoes in Costa Rica. Guests will enjoy an exciting adventure above the striking Central Valley.

We will start the trip flying over Poas Volcano National Park, an active volcano with one of the largest craters on Earth. Afterwards we will fly over Irazu Volcano which has a massive crater with a mystical green lagoon surrounded by jagged rocks. Finally we will fly over Arenal Volcano National Park and its surrounding small towns. The volcano´s perfectly symmetrical shape is really impressive!

Finally we will land at La Fortuna, from where guests will be transferred to their hotel.

Manuel Antonio: Manuel Antonio Or Arenal Manuel Antonio, Visiting The Tarcoles Cocodrile Tour

Guests will be transferred from San José to Manuel Antonio. On the way we will stop at Tárcoles where we will take a boat ride through the river. Guests will have great chances to observe crocodiles, with sizes of over the four meters long, iguanas and basilisks among others. Among the Tarcoles mangroves, guests might spot a large variety of rare birds and aquatic species.

After this fascinating boat trip we will drive guests to Manuel Antonio.

Turrialba: Visiting Irazu Volcano And Cartago

Guests will be picked up at their San Jose hotel and transported to Turrialba through a scenic road that passes through coffee plantations, vegetable crops, plants and flower farms. We will make a first stop at Irazu Volcano National Park known as "The Colossus". Guests will admire the spectacular views of its massive crater and its mystical green lagoon.

Afterwards we will stop at Cartago the former capital of the country and visit the most important Catholic Church in Costa Rica, "La Basilica de los Angeles". They will meet "La Negrita", the famous Costa Rican virgin, which is yearly visited by thousand of pilgrims from all over the country.

Finally guests will be transported to their Turrialba hotel.
